Dishing Out The Cash
Newquay Mayor Andy Hannan along with his wife Barbara and the Joe Way appeals' Dean Woods carried out a whistle stop tour to hand over donations from last years Joe Way Paddle for life.
The trio started at Kingsley Village to hand over £150 to the League of Friends and £250 to the Air Ambulance which was a thank you to Atlantic FM for their support and was added to the local radio stations running total for their High Five Appeal which is raising money for the Cornwall Air Ambulance.
After a stop at the Atlantic FM studios to speak to the presenters they headed off to Wadebridge to meet the Celtic Storm Power Chair Football team who received £100 as a thank you for the Newquay Sainsbury’s stores help with parking spaces at last years paddle. Celtic Storm are Sainsbury’s chosen charity so this was another boost through the supermarket helping Joe’s Paddle.
The next stop was at St Austell to meet the team from Tanya’s Courage who raise money to support teenagers with cancer after Tanya Billing lost her battle several years ago. Iris Billing, Tanya’s mum, accepted the cheque during another busy fundraiser for her late daughter’s charity.
The rest of the paddle money, which was given out by Joe’s Dad Matt Way, went to Cornwall Hospice Care, Precious Lives Appeal, Cornwall Blind Association, CLIC, Ronald McDonald House (Bristol), Newquay Towan Blystra Lions Club and the Newquay Police Cadets.
The Joe Way appeal is the Newquay mayor Andy Hannan’s chosen charity and has raised just under £10,000 through 2011 taking the toddlers appeal to over £98,000.00 in three years for nearly 20 charities.
The next event is a film night at Newquay Cinema to see Dirty Dancing on 16th February for tickets and information call 01637 878377, pop into the Lighthouse Cinema or Andy’s Café in Newquay. Newquay Mayor and Joe’s appeal will donate all the funds from this event to CLIC and the Trenance Cottages.
