The eighth Joe Way Paddle for Life gets ready for its ‘Sunset Session’ on the beach on Thursday 18th June at Newquay Harbour. This year the water safety is being run by Cornish company K38 who were founded in 2005 by current K38 lead instructor Ben Granata and Chris Bertish who saw the need for professional water-craft training in the UK.
Ben Granata of K38 UK is the only instructor certified to teach K38 Rescue Watercraft Training in the UK and Ireland. Currently there are no other training establishments or instructor who can train students in the 'K38 Way' in the UK or Ireland.
The prize draw that was already boosting an impressive list has also had 2 tickets for three different gigs at Lusty Glaze's Sundowner Sessions donated. The three gigs include John Butler, Xavier Rudd and the highly anticipated Symphony By The Sea.
This year's promotion of the event will also have 200 posters and 5000 flyers donated by long time supporters P&J print who have supported The Joe Way Appeal since it started in 2008 printing thousands of posters for so many different fundraisers.
Skinners Brewery are also donating another Keg to Newquay Rowing Club of which all the proceeds will go into the charity pot which raised £300 at last year's event thanks to the thirsty Paddlers that enjoyed the last band who always finish playing in the Rowing Club.
Joe's dad, Matt Way said; “This year's Business support and sponsorship has really grown and we are looking forward to working with our new Water safety crew K38 who are donating the cover for free along with land safety teams Purple Gecko Events, In Safe Hands, Frontline Security, Newquay Activity Centre and our usual beach team of volunteers who are made up of friends and supporters who come as far as Essex for the event".
Paddlers and swimmers ages start from 9 years upwards and the entry fee is £10 per adult, £15 for a team of four for the relays and £5 per child (under 18’s) which is paid on the day with everyone also getting a certificate, free prize ticket and a discount voucher for food. The event is about family fun and everyone helps each other along.
The paddling starts at 4pm and the last registration for a heat is 6pm so there is plenty of time to arrive when people have finished work, the Joe Way memorial RNLI lifeguard race is just after 7pm. Boards are provided with lots of help from Newquay and Lusty Glaze Surf Life Savers so all you need is your wetsuit! Swimmers, SUP’s and canoes are also welcome.
