The Paddle for Life started after lifeguards from Fistral Beach held a Joe Way memorial paddle to raise money for charity in 2008.  Joe is the inspirational little boy who touched people's lives around the country and beyond.

Our aim is to raise awareness of Joe’s story and inspire people to raise money for their chosen charity.

Santa Fun Run & Surf Makes A Splash

Written by Scott Dickinson on .

Fistral Surf Center hosted the Cornwall's first Santa fun and Surf competition with over 70 Santa's running a mile and taking to the water in some very windy conditions.

All competitors donned Santa outfits to run the mile on Cornwall's iconic surfing beach whilst surfers used foamie surfboards for the festive event. Spectators saw seasoned competitive surfers with those in their first contest compete in both an Open for men and women and an U16 category.

Matt Way, from the Joe Way Appeal said; "Cornwall Hospice Care and Fistral Surf Hire did a great job putting this event on and I'm sure it will grow each year".

Event organizer Jenny Briant said; "Everyone really got into the festive spirit with lots of Santa outfits managing to make it through the whole heat. It was great to see so many people taking part in the fun run and surfing event, we are already looking forward to 2016".

The final surf rankings were OPEN 1st Martyn Chapman, 2nd Clint Pope, 3rd George Mayes, 4th Joe Lobb and the U16's 1st Charlie Plant and 2nd Abi Pope.

Cornwall Hospice Care provides specialist care to people living with life limiting illnesses providing the only adult hospice care in Cornwall.

Rose Beattie, events fundraiser for Cornwall Hospice Care said; "The Santa Beach Run and Surf was a fantastic event and we expect it to raise over £2000 to support adult hospice care in Cornwall in our 2 Hospices, St Julia’s in Hayle and Mt Edgcumbe in St Austell as well as in the community. We would like to thank all of Team Santa Newquay Fistral, our team of volunteers, Fistral Surf School and the Joe Way appeal for their support with this event".

The competitors signed in at the Beach bar which also had a craft fare and with the free parking all day it was a chance to for the spectators to do some Christmas shopping.

The event was supported by ERA Adventures, Fistral Beach Surf Centre, Tolcarne Beach, Joe Way Appeal, The Beach Bar and Bon Bon Fistral.
